Walk The World (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is operated by Arbitrium Ltd.
This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices.
It applies to the app on both iOS and Android.
Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the app’s features:
Account information — your email address (for sign-up and login). You may also sign in with Apple or Google, in which case we receive a unique account identifier from them (and, if you allow it, your name/email).
Physical activity / step data — your daily step count, read from your device with your permission (Apple Health / Core Motion on iOS, the physical activity sensor on Android). We use it only to move your virtual journey forward. We do not write data back to Apple Health or Google Fit.
Approximate location — when you start a journey, the app may use your device location (only while the app is in use) to set your real starting city. We store the resulting origin point, not a continuous location history.
Journey & progress data — origin, destination, distance walked, countries crossed, achievements, badges and streaks.
Profile information you choose to add — a display name, an optional profile photo, and optional social handles (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook).
Social connections — friends you add, and the groups, shared journeys and races (solo and team) you take part in.
Notification token — if you enable notifications, a push token used to send reminders, streak nudges, milestone alerts and race/challenge invites.
Purchase information — if you buy Walk The World Pro, our payments partner processes the transaction and tells us whether your subscription is active. We do not receive or store your card details.
How We Use Your Information
To calculate and display your virtual journey progress on the map.
To count countries crossed and award achievements, badges and streaks.
To power social features you choose to use — adding friends, shared journeys, and solo or team races.
To send optional notifications (daily reminders, streaks, milestones, race invites and weekly recaps).
To manage your Walk The World Pro subscription.
All data is used solely to provide and improve the app’s features. We do not use your data for advertising.
What Other Users Can See
When you use social features, other people can see your display name and profile photo, and — within a shared journey, group or race you both join — your progress (distance/steps for that activity). Your email address, location and notification token are never shown to other users.
How Your Data Is Shared
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that operate the app on our behalf:
Supabase — hosting, authentication, database and photo storage.
RevenueCat — subscription/purchase management.
Apple / Google — sign-in and in-app purchases (when you use them).
Expo — delivery of push notifications (push token only).
These providers process data only to provide their service to us and are bound by their own privacy and security obligations.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely with Supabase (supabase.com) and is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Data Retention & Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen (“Delete Account”). This permanently removes your account and associated data from our servers. You can also use the app as a guest; guest data is stored on our servers so it isn’t lost, and is removed if you delete the account.
Children
Walk The World is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
